Quiz Patente in English: Practise Patente B Theory Free

Practise the official Italian Patente B theory questions with explanations in English. Free quiz, how the real exam works, and the app that teaches the why.

The theory exam is in Italian, or in French or German if you ask for it when you book; there is no English, Persian or Arabic version. Driving Freedom keeps every practice question in its original Italian and explains it in English, with narrated audio, so you learn the exact wording you will see on exam day. Start with the free practice quiz.

Can I take the patente exam in English?

No. The questions on the screen are in Italian, French or German (French/German on request when you book). English, Persian and Arabic versions do not exist. Candidates without Italian citizenship can ask to hear the questions read aloud in Italian through headphones. The full answer, including what this means for Arabic and Persian speakers, is in Can I take the patente exam in English?.

How does the theory exam work?

The theory exam is a set of 30 true/false statements. You have 20 minutes, and you pass with at most 3 errors. Each statement is either VERO (true) or FALSO (false), and many are built to look true until you read every word. For how to train under that time limit, see our mock exam strategy.

Try a free practice quiz in English

Our free Patente B quiz uses the real exam format: Italian statements, a true/false answer, and an English explanation of why the answer is right. Do one round now and you will see quickly which parts of the Italian you already understand and which ones trip you up.

Why word-for-word translation is not enough

Pasting a question into a translator gives you English words, not the meaning the examiners intended. Patente statements turn on small words:

  • sempre (always), solo / soltanto (only), tutti (all): one absolute word can make a true rule false.
  • meno di (less than) and almeno (at least): a number in the statement is often the trap.
  • sosta (parking) and fermata (stopping briefly), carreggiata (carriageway) and corsia (lane): a translator may treat them as the same word, but the exam does not.

We collected real examples in the Patente B questions our learners miss most.

What does "foglio rosa" mean in English?

Foglio rosa literally means "pink sheet". It is the authorisation to practise driving that you get after you pass the theory exam. It is not a licence. Our foglio rosa guide explains what you may and may not do with it.
