The Patente B Questions Our Learners Miss Most (2026)
The official Patente B statements Driving Freedom learners get wrong most on their first try, with the trap in each one, explained in plain English.
These are the questions our learners miss most on their first try: eight official Patente B statements from the Driving Freedom app, with the word or idea that makes each one a trap. They are not "the hardest questions on the exam". They are the ones our own learners most often got wrong the first time they met them.
How we built this list
Data: Driving Freedom app quiz answers, 15 July 2026 to 31 October 2026, test accounts excluded, exam-style VERO/FALSO items only. We count each learner's first answer to each question.
Ranking: a cross-chapter ranking that corrects for small samples (at most 3 questions per chapter, at least 10 learners per question). We show a percentage only where at least 50 learners answered. Below that we describe the share in words, because with small samples the rate can move by 10 points or more.

The list
The statements are quoted in Italian, as they appear in the exam. The English line under each is our explanation, not a translation you will see on screen.
1. "Alla guida di un veicolo, in vicinanza di una piazzola di fermata di autobus per scolari, occorre fare attenzione allo scuolabus, che dopo la fermata farà sicuramente retromarcia" — FALSO
"Near a school-bus stop, watch out for the school bus, which will certainly reverse after stopping." 76% of our learners got this wrong on their first try. Being careful near a school bus is right; sicuramente (certainly) makes the statement false.
2. "La patente di categoria BE abilita a condurre autotreni composti da un autoveicolo di massa massima autorizzata fino a 3.500 chilogrammi che traina un rimorchio di massa superiore a 3.500 chilogrammi" — FALSO
BE lets a category B vehicle tow a trailer of up to 3,500 kg; a heavier trailer needs a different licence. More than half of the learners who met it got it wrong (small sample). Licence categories are full of weight limits; read each number and what it applies to.
3. "In condizioni di traffico intenso su carreggiata a senso unico a tre corsie, come in figura, è consentito viaggiare per file parallele" — VERO
"In heavy traffic on a one-way carriageway with three lanes, as in the picture, you may drive in parallel lines." More than half of the learners who met it got it wrong (small sample). Many learners assume parallel lines are never allowed; on a multi-lane one-way road in heavy traffic they are.
4. "Per garantire una maggiore sicurezza durante la guida di un veicolo con rimorchio, è consigliabile concentrare il carico massimo in corrispondenza del gancio di traino" — FALSO
"For more safety when towing a trailer, concentrate the maximum load over the tow hitch." More than half of the learners who met it got it wrong (small sample). It sounds like sensible advice, which is exactly why it catches people.
5. "Il segnale raffigurato obbliga i veicoli a marciare a meno di 70 metri di distanza l'uno dall'altro" — FALSO
"The sign shown requires vehicles to travel less than 70 metres apart." More than half of the learners who met it got it wrong (small sample). The sign sets a minimum distance; a meno di (less than) turns the rule around.

6. "Il carico dei veicoli deve essere sistemato in modo da non mascherare dispositivi di illuminazione e di segnalazione visiva soltanto durante la circolazione notturna" — FALSO
"A load must be placed so it does not hide lights and visual signals only when driving at night." More than half of the learners who met it got it wrong (small sample). Everything is true until soltanto (only): the rule applies at all times.
7 and 8. The "5 metres" pair
7. "Nei centri abitati, la fermata e la sosta sono vietate in corrispondenza delle aree di intersezione e in prossimità di esse a meno di 5 metri, salvo diversa segnalazione" — VERO
8. "Nei centri abitati la fermata è vietata in prossimità delle aree di intersezione, a più di 5 metri" — FALSO
In built-up areas, stopping and parking are banned at junctions and within 5 metres of them, unless signs say otherwise. More than half of the learners who met each one got it wrong (small sample). The two statements differ by one phrase: a meno di (less than) against a più di (more than).
Why these trip people up
Absolute words: sempre, solo, soltanto, tutti
One word can flip a true rule into a false one (#6 soltanto). sicurauto.it makes the same point: a single non, solo or sempre changes the meaning of the sentence (Patente B: errori da evitare per non farsi bocciare ai quiz, 28 October 2025, retrieved 31 October 2026). Rule: when you see an absolute word, ask whether there is any exception.
Numbers inside statements: meno, almeno, più
#5 and the #7/#8 pair keep the right number and change the word around it. The Local warns that statements may be "worded strangely, such as with double negatives" and that some "take an otherwise true statement and add a subtly false fact to it" (How to study for your Italian driver's license theory exam, 4 May 2026, updated 9 May, retrieved 31 October 2026). Rule: read the word before the number as carefully as the number.
Signs
In a 2021 test of about 3,100 drivers licensed for more than 5 years, AutoScout24 and Egaf found that the single most-missed question was about a sign, with 75% wrong (Analisi AutoScout24-Egaf edizioni su patentati da oltre 5 anni, 20 December 2021, retrieved 31 October 2026). Our #5 is a sign question too. Rule: learn what a sign requires, not only what it looks like.
Warning lights
A 2024 AutoScout24 and Egaf release lists warning lights and road signs (spie e segnaletica) among the most common errors of the 2,700+ drivers it tested (Quiz Patente B: Analisi AutoScout24 ed Egaf edizioni, April 2024, retrieved 31 October 2026). None of our eight is a warning-light question, but the topic deserves its own revision. Rule: revise dashboard lights by colour and meaning.
Right of way
sicurauto.it (same article) names right of way (precedenze) as a topic candidates find complicated. In our own data it is not at the top: the right-of-way chapter has one of the lowest first-try error rates. Others report it as hard; our learners mostly get it right. Rule: do not skip it, but do not let it take time from the topics above.
"Common sense" and absolute traps
#1 (sicuramente) describes a real situation and then adds an absolute claim. Rule: if a statement says something will certainly happen or a safety step is unnecessary, it is most likely false.
Find your own most-missed list
Everyone's weak spots are different. Driving Freedom tracks which categories you get wrong and brings your mistakes back for review, so the app builds your own most-missed list as you study. Every question stays in Italian, with the explanation in English, Persian (Farsi) or Arabic and narrated audio. There are 6,700+ exam practice questions in the real exam format, and the first chapter is free.
