STATE OF UNCONSCIOUSNESS
If a road casualty is in a state of unconsciousness:
they do not respond to simple stimuli
they are unable to perform movements
they are unable to answer a question
As they are unable to provide for themselves, their condition must be monitored and care must be provided until the arrival of medical personnel.
Move the casualty only if it is certain that they have no spinal column trauma.
Check whether the casualty is still breathing by placing the hand on the lower side of the thorax or on the abdomen:
if breathing is labored, clear the nose and mouth of any obstructions
if breathing is spontaneous, place them in the "recovery position" with great caution (lying on one side with the head tilted backwards to facilitate breathing, leg bent, arm bent to provide support to the head, mouth open and facing downwards to facilitate the discharge of fluids).
