It indicates the start of a motorway tunnel and therefore reminds drivers not to stop or park in the tunnel, unless otherwise signposted, or in any case to switch off the engine in the event of a prolonged stop in the tunnel.
It advises keeping a firm grip on the steering wheel to cope with potential gusts of wind at the tunnel exit.
It is not true that it indicates an unlit tunnel.
