Patente B Study Schedule for Working Adults — 8-Week Plan
Working full-time while preparing for the Italian Patente B theory exam? This realistic 8-week study schedule fits around a 9-to-5 job and gets you exam-ready.
Most Patente B study advice assumes you are a student with hours of free time daily. If you work full-time, commute, and have family obligations, you need a plan that is realistic. This 8-week schedule is designed around a 40-hour work week.
The Reality of Working-Adult Preparation
You have approximately 30–45 minutes per weekday and 2–3 hours on weekends. That is roughly 6–7 hours per week — more than enough to be fully prepared in 8 weeks if you use those hours efficiently.
The key principle: active recall beats passive reading. Doing questions is 3× more effective than re-reading the highway code.
Week-by-Week Plan
Weeks 1–2: Foundation (Traffic Signs + Right of Way)
Daily target: 30 min
- Monday–Friday: 50 questions on traffic signs (recognition only)
- Weekend: 100 questions on right-of-way scenarios + 1 timed mock exam
- Goal: Know all sign categories cold (warning, regulatory, informational, directional)
Weeks 3–4: Core Rules (Speed + Stopping + Motorways)
Daily target: 30 min
- Monday–Friday: 50 questions on speed limits and stopping distances
- Saturday: motorway and extra-urban road rules — 80 questions
- Sunday: 1 full timed mock exam (40 questions, 30 minutes) — note your score
- Goal: Consistently score 34+/40 on mock exams
Weeks 5–6: Technical + Safety Topics
Daily target: 35 min
- Monday–Friday: alternate between technical (vehicle mechanics, lights, tyres) and safety (first aid, accident procedure, alcohol/drugs)
- Weekend: 2 timed mock exams; review every wrong answer
- Goal: Eliminate errors in technical and safety questions
Week 7: Weak Area Intensive
Daily target: 40 min
- Identify your 3 weakest topic areas from mock exam results
- Focus exclusively on those topics Monday–Thursday
- Friday: rest
- Saturday–Sunday: 2 full timed mock exams each day (4 total)
- Goal: Consistently scoring 37+/40
Week 8: Final Preparation
Daily target: 20 min
- Monday–Thursday: 1 timed mock exam per day, review wrong answers only
- Friday: rest completely
- Weekend (if exam not this week): maintain with 1 mock exam per day
The 15-Minute Commute Trick
If you commute by public transport, 15 minutes of Driving Freedom questions each way (morning + evening) adds up to 2.5 hours of productive practice weekly — effectively adding a third daily session at zero time cost.
When to Book the Exam
Book your Motorizzazione appointment at the end of Week 4 — the waiting time (4–8 weeks) means you will naturally sit the exam at the end of Week 8 or beginning of Week 9, after completing your preparation.
Signs You Are Ready
- Consistent 37–38/40 on timed mock exams for at least one week
- Fewer than 3 errors on image/scenario questions
- Completing 40 questions in under 20 minutes (leaving buffer time)
