DIPPED-BEAM HEADLIGHTS The use of dipped-beam headlights is mandatory: In built-up areas from half an hour after sunset to half an hour before sunrise Outside built-up areas (on motorways and extra-urban roads) even during the day (alternatively, daytime running lights may be used during the day) In case of poor visibility due to weather conditions (snow, rain, fog) When passing through tunnels (even if they are illuminated) When transporting injured or seriously ill persons Outside built-up areas when street lighting is sufficient (therefore as a substitute for high-beam headlights) Outside insufficiently lit built-up areas when meeting other vehicles, as a substitute for high-beam headlights. It is not true that they must be kept on while parked, under any circumstances. Dipped-beam headlights may risk dazzling others or reducing the driver's visibility: If the lamps are incorrectly fitted or are not approved If the headlights are adjusted too high
