Positioned on motorways or main extra-urban roads (as in this case), it indicates the distance (the figure at the bottom) between the sign and the next exit junction. Therefore, it lists the names of the destinations reachable by taking that exit (in the center). In the example, it is on an extra-urban road (indicated by the blue background) and indicates that the junction for Frosinone is 500 m away, and the reachable destinations are those listed in the center on the blue background. Tourist attractions are indicated on a brown background. It is not correct to state that the town of Frosinone is reached in 500 meters (in fact, at 500 meters there is the exit from the road currently being traveled, which then allows access to Frosinone).
