DRIVER'S LICENSE SUSPENSION
License suspension is ordered by the Prefect, the Civil Motorisation Office, or the Judicial Authority and consists of a prohibition from driving vehicles for a specified period.
Suspension is an ancillary penalty resulting from the violation of certain articles of the Highway Code; in some cases, it is not applied upon the first offence, but when the driver commits the same irregularity twice within two years.
For example:
when a newly licensed driver operates a vehicle without complying with the restrictions on vehicle types and speed limits
when the maximum speed limit is exceeded by more than 40 km/h
when driving on the hard shoulder of a motorway in cases not permitted by the Highway Code
when the driver operates a vehicle under the influence of narcotics or in a state of alcohol intoxication
when the driver refuses to undergo testing for alcohol intoxication
when the driver flees the scene without providing assistance to a person struck by the vehicle
when the driver illegally operates a vehicle that has been impounded
if vehicle insurance documents are forged or falsified
in the event of a temporary loss of physical or mental requirements
if the holder drives with a license category other than the one required for the vehicle being operated
It is NOT true that suspension is ordered:
when the driver operates a vehicle with a suspended license
when the license holder permanently loses the required physical requirements
when doubts arise regarding the continued fulfillment of the prescribed requirements
concurrently with the notification of the zeroing of points
when driving without having the driver's license in one's possession
when driving with an illegible or deteriorated license
when, upon request by officers, one is unable to produce the portable warning triangle
when the holder no longer possesses the required moral requirements
when a vehicle is parked in spaces reserved for disabled persons
when the vehicle tax has not been paid within the deadline
