These are four-wheeled vehicles with an unladen weight of up to 400 kg (550 kg if intended for the transport of goods) and an engine power not exceeding 15 kW. To drive a quadricycle, you generally need to be 16 years old and hold a category B1 driving licence, unless it is a light quadricycle. LIGHT QUADRICYCLES are those with a power of up to 4 kW, equipped with a petrol engine (with a displacement not exceeding 50 cm³), diesel or electric engine, such as microcars. For traffic purposes, they are treated as mopeds, and can therefore be driven from the age of 14 with a category AM driving licence. When driving quadricycles with an open body (quads), a helmet must be worn. All quadricycles (light or otherwise) are subject to periodic inspection. It is expressly forbidden to modify or replace the engine of quadricycles to increase their speed or displacement.
