A motorway is a road with independent or traffic-separated carriageways, each with at least two lanes for moving traffic and an emergency lane. Furthermore: it is marked by specific road signs indicating the beginning and end. staggered junctions (interchanges) may be found, but not level crossings. it is equipped with acceleration and deceleration lanes for vehicles entering and exiting. only certain categories of motor vehicles are permitted to use it. it has no private access points. it must be fenced laterally. the general maximum speed limit is 130 km/h. the road signs are green. The following are prohibited from using the motorway: passenger cars unable to develop a speed of at least 80 km/h. vehicles with loads not properly secured or with loose, uncovered materials that could scatter. vehicles not in compliance with the required inspection or in poor condition, equipment or tyre condition (e.g. worn tyres, faulty indicators). mopeds. motorcycles with an engine capacity of less than 150 cm3. agricultural machines and construction equipment. The following are prohibited on the motorway: reversing direction. stopping, except in cases of necessity (illness or serious vehicle breakdown) on the hard shoulder for a maximum of 3 hours. soliciting or giving lifts (even in service areas). towing other vehicles (except trailers). using high beam headlights in service areas and on sections with lighting. speed racing. carrying out sales or promotional activities.
